Speech and Language
Therapy

Speech is the formation of sounds, the sound quality, and the rhythm/flow of sound.  Language is the process of organizing our words into meaningful speech to convey our thoughts and ideas for effective communication.  Speech and/or language changes may result following a stroke or other neurological impairments, brain tumor/injury, and other medical conditions.

Deficits in speech and language may present as: 

  • slurred speech

  • difficulty finding words

  • difficulty imitating sounds/words

  • difficulty expressing thoughts, wants, needs

  • difficulty answering questions

  • difficulty understanding verbal or written information

  • difficulty reading or writing

Therapy focuses on establishing an individualized treatment plan to improve functional communication skills needed for daily interactions/communications and to enhance quality of life.
